What we are hoping to do in the coming year

  • Will be working with the Cross Party Women politicians on power sharing
  • We will be taking the same women politicians to Japan for a Study tour and visit to share and learn from the Japanese post conflict experience.
  • Further training for women to run for political office, specifically in the northern and eastern provinces.
  • Training peace keepers and service personnel on gender sensitiveness.
  • At the moment we are talking with the Canadian High Commission to establish a 1325 forum to meet monthly, to fully implement UN resolution 1325.
  • Conduct TOT and further train women on law, human rights, women’s rights, humans security and UN SCR 1325 and 1820
  • We are also planning to hold an international conference on resolution 1325.
  • We are hoping and have already had initial discussion with the eastern province chief ministers’ office, to build capacities of the women and also to hold workshops on democracy and governance.
  • To empower a greater number of women in Sri Lanka mainly in North and Eastern provinces with the skills they need to engage effectively in public life and improve human rights, human security and democratic governance practices
  • We also hope to bring 5000 women to Colombo on the International women’s day to advocate for a 33% quota.
  • We are at the moment exploring the possibility of establishing an initiative to educate Tamil women specifically looking into the future of women and girls those who were with the LTTE
  • A comparative research  study with Mc Gill university of Montreal Canada on Child Soldiers of Sri Lanka and Sierra Leon
  • To impart dignity and confidence to women who are potentially seeking political office and community leadership through the facilitation of a stronger network of women (in NGOs and local government) that is dedicated to ensuring women’s empowerment
