A group of more than two thousand women from across Sri Lanka directly
affected by the war; their sons, husbands missing/missing in action, killed,
or disabled due to the war. AWAW is deeply committed to seeing an end
to this meaningless war and achieving a sustainable peace.

To achieve peace through socio-economic development enlisting the active
participation of war affected women.

war; their husbands, sons, fathers, or brothers killed, missing, or disabled
due to the war or they themselves disabled or displaced

The Association of War Affected Women (AWAW) over the past

eight years worked to promote peace by bringing together people

from all of the communities involved in the
conflict in Sri Lanka. This past networking made it imperative for AWAW
to similarly reach out to assist communities affected by the tsunami,
with the overarching goal of promoting peace.
